RACHELE DIMEGLIO

Rachele DiMeglio Adam is the Managing Director, Partnerships & External Affairs for Teach For America in Detroit.  Rachele is a founding and longest-serving senior leader on her team, where they recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to educators committed to closing the achievement gap in underserved communities. Rachele collaboratively sets short and long-term regional vision and strategic plans, cultivates and manages a strong team culture, and makes long-term and in-the-moment operating decisions. She sets vision for external and internal communications strategy, ensuring that the stories of excellent schools, students, and teachers are being told in and around our community.

Rachele began her professional career as a Teach For America Bay Area corps member in 2004, where she taught 8th grade and 4th grade in San Jose, California. While teaching, she served on her school’s leadership team and several committees. During the summer of 2005 she worked as a summer school English teacher in Beijing, China. After teaching, she returned to her home state of Michigan to pursue graduate studies in Educational Policy from her undergraduate alma mater Michigan State University. While at MSU, her work focused on racial achievement gaps in both urban and suburban schools, efforts to prepare teachers to work in urban settings, and the cultural mismatches that often exist between students and their teachers.  She also taught undergraduate coursework on human diversity and the implications for classroom teachers, as well as qualitative research methods. Additionally, Rachele worked as a graduate intern for the Michigan Department of Education supporting changes to the teacher licensure levels and teacher preparation guidelines. 

Rachele served as the founding board secretary for Southwest Detroit Lighthouse Charter Academy and currently sits on the Excellent Educators Advisory Group for the Michigan Department of Education.
